Couldn't Be Crazier about These Old German Customs

Talk about a herzlich Willkommen. I recently found out that Germany is going to give me 100 euros just for coming to live there.

It's called Begrüßungsgeld (beh-GROOCE-oonks-gelt) and Wikipedia, the omniscient narrator, says it used to be offered to East Germans as a way to entice them into the West.

Now I guess they use it to entice foreign students. All I have to do is fill out a ream of paperwork, anmelden (register) with the local authorities, and collect my money. Vielen Dank, Deutschland, and ashzlan!

  1. "You wouldn't say 'I'm going to Europe, Berlin' would you?"

"If that's where I wanted to go I would!"
